Teardrop Tomato is a unique Metchosin Farm original variety developed through years of field selection and care. The plants produce a gorgeous mix of teardrop-shaped fruit with tangy, bright flavour and reliable yields. Fruit sizes vary slightly, as this line is still being stabilized—offering gardeners the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful diversity that recalls the richness of traditional open-pollinated crops. Teardrop is productive, resilient, and a standout for fresh eating, roasting, and preserving.

Where Can You Grow Teardrop Tomato?
Thrives in Zones 3–9. Grow in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Ideal for garden beds, greenhouse planting, or large patio containers.

History and Historical Uses
Developed here on our farm, this variety reflects our commitment to seed diversity and flavour. By saving seed from the most interesting plants—those with the best productivity, shape, colour, and taste—we are working to restore the biodiversity that was once common in gardens and farms.

Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8–9: Direct sow indoors in early spring and transplant after last frost.
Zones 5–7: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost and transplant when soil warms.
Zones 3–4: Start indoors and provide extra protection when transplanting outdoors.

How to Grow and Harvest Teardrop Tomato
Planting: Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost, 0.5cm (¼in) deep.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, avoid wetting foliage.
Harvesting: Pick when fruit is fully coloured and slightly soft to touch.
Maintenance: Stake or cage for support. Prune lower leaves to promote airflow.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply
Select Ripe Fruit: Choose healthy, fully mature tomatoes.
Extract Seeds: Scoop seeds into a jar with water and ferment 2–3 days.
Rinse and Dry: Rinse thoroughly and dry seeds on a non-stick surface.
Store: Keep seeds in a cool, dry, dark location; viable for 4–6 years.
