Sugar Anne is a fast-growing, extra early snap pea that delivers sweet, crisp 6cm pods on tidy, compact plants. The short, bushy vines are perfect for container growing or small spaces and do not require support, making them especially easy for beginners. The pods are delicious when picked fresh off the vine or frozen for later use. Highly resistant to powdery mildew, Sugar Anne is a reliable and rewarding choice for early-season planting.

Where Can You Grow Sugar Anne Snap Pea?
Ideal for Zones 3–9, Sugar Anne thrives in cool spring weather and prefers full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. An excellent choice for early sowing, succession planting, and even container gardens.

History and Historical Uses
Snap peas are a modern hybrid of shelling peas and snow peas, bred for their edible pods and sweet flavour. Sugar Anne was developed to mature faster than most snap peas, making it a favourite in cooler climates where an early harvest is desired. Its ease of growth and excellent flavour have earned it a place in home gardens across North America.

Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8-9: Direct sow in early spring or late summer for fall harvest.
Zones 5-7: Sow as soon as soil can be worked in spring; succession sow for extended harvest.
Zones 3-4: Start indoors or sow early under cover to protect from frost.

How to Grow and Harvest Sugar Anne Snap Pea
Planting: Sow seeds 2.5cm (1in) deep, 5–10cm (2–4in) apart in rows 30cm (12in) apart.
Watering: Keep evenly moist; water deeply during dry spells.
Harvesting: Pick pods when plump but before they get tough.
Maintenance: No trellising needed; mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply
Let Pods Mature: Allow pods to dry on the vine until brittle.
Harvest Seeds: Remove pods and shell out dry peas.
Dry and Store: Spread out to dry completely before storing.
Store: Keep in a cool, dark place; seeds remain viable for 3–5 years.
