A visually striking and versatile variety, named for their dramatic black and white markings that resemble the orca whale. Also known as ying-yang or calypso beans, these compact plants are prolific producers, delivering generous yields of flavourful beans. The beans can be enjoyed fresh when young or harvested and dried for hearty soups and stews in the colder months. Their bold appearance makes them a favourite for gardeners young and old, and they’re a perfect conversation starter in any garden plot.

Where Can You Grow Orca Bush Beans?
Best suited to Zones 3–9, Orca Bush Beans thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. They are an excellent choice for raised beds, container gardening, and smaller plots.

History and Historical Uses
A classic heirloom variety with a long-standing reputation for productivity and beauty, the calypso bean has been a staple in North American and European gardens. Known for its excellent dry bean storage quality, it has been used in traditional winter dishes and is valued both for its ornamental qualities and culinary versatility.

Canadian Zone Information
